How it works

We have devised a small curriculum of 20 core physical health topics but through successive rounds of delivery, the list of topics has become broader ranging as we have attempted to meet specific ward-based needs. Bitesized Teaching is purposefully flexible and tutors are expected to be responsive to the requests of each ward.

To simplify organisation and delivery, Bitesized Teaching does not utilise teaching presentation software and the main delivery style is discussion based, with most tutors organising the session around prompts and cues from a single A4 handout.

Delivery structure

There is a simple delivery structure to Bitesized Teaching which is:

  • Signs
  • Symptoms
  • Causes
  • Basic ward level management

Junior Doctors are encouraged to be creative in the delivery of each session – they can use pictures, diagrams and equipment to aid what is primarily a discursive based tutorial.

The additional benefits of Bitesized Teaching are that it enhances ward-based working relationships and allows junior doctors to gain important teaching experience.
